We’ve made the decision to be a Christ follower. What now? It doesn’t have to be complicated. No matter what our job is in this life (manager, busboy, driver, garbage man) and no matter what our spiritual calling is (minister, teacher, hospitality, etc) there are a few things Christ has asked of all his followers.
I’m not talking about a list of things to do – to check off – trying to get everything perfectly right. Living authentically for God is about our heart right with Him through relationship in Jesus then choosing every moment to be headed in the right direction.
Christ asks us to glorify God by loving Him in all we do and with all we have.
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind;
and your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27
What will this look like? I recommend spending time with God-in his word, in prayer and worship-to gain a good understanding. But here are a few ideas.
Do we…
…handle our mess-ups in a way that honors God?
…repent and get back up?
…say we’re sorry?
…live authentically before the Lord?
…trust Him?
…set our minds towards learning how to trust Him?
…abide in Him, in His word on a regular basis?
…face life with a view towards God?
Christ asks us to share the good news we have about Him with others. It’s the best way to love them.
‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Mark 12:31
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
We can’t – absolutely can’t – keep it to our self. In some way, unique to who we are, we need to share. Not hide it under a bushel. We are the light of the world. His hope shines out to the world through us.
“…sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence…” 1 Peter 3:15
How has God directed you to be a light in this world?
