Don’t be envious (crave, desire, lust after, thirst for, want, yearn) the gifts someone else has. It’s easy to think the grass is greener on the other side. That what someone else is doing is so much better than our job. It muddies the water and clouds our vision.
God has made you uniquely you. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
All your talents, experiences and training make up your abilities. God does not ask of you something you do not have.
God asked Moses, “What’s in your hand?” then used the staff he held to show His greatness. He will likewise take what you have and do His work through you.
It is easy to get lost in the land of “I don’t know what I can do” when we start looking around at what everyone else is doing.
So shut off the comparison channel and set aside some time to meet with God. Somewhere quiet. Spend some time breathing in God. Soak Him up. Read His word and worship Him. Ask Him what He has in mind for you.
Take advantage of personality tests, spiritual gifts tests and your friends’ observations about you.
Don’t get distracted into a thousand different directions because of their suggestions though. But when you start seeing a common thread, take it to God. Then consider seeking out some new opportunities that are uniquely fitted to you.
Or perhaps, like me, the frustration comes from not being able to focus on what you love and are already doing and the answer is in cutting down on commitments.
Or perhaps you are in a season of waiting, preparation or setting aside your dream. And the fulfillment will come in another season of life.
In the meantime, stop comparing, be thankful where you are and Trust God’s hand to take you where you need to be.
